INS Tabar Arrives in London for Four-Day Visit

INS Tabar, a frontline frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at London Harbour on August 7, 2024, for a four-day visit. This visit underscores the enduring historical ties between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy, which have continued to thrive in recent decades. Regular exchanges of naval ships and joint participation in various naval exercises have strengthened this relationship. One notable example is Konkan, a long-standing annual bilateral naval exercise between the two navies.

During its stay in London, INS Tabar will engage in a series of professional interactions with the Royal Navy. The ship’s crew will also participate in community service activities, including assisting retired Royal Army personnel at a local old age home. This gesture reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family). These activities aim to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the maritime sector, and provide an opportunity to showcase Indian culture.

INS Tabar is a stealth frigate built in Russia for the Indian Navy. Commanded by Captain M.R. Harish, the ship has a crew of approximately 280 personnel. It is equipped with a versatile array of weapons and sensors and is one of the Indian Navy’s early stealth frigates. INS Tabar is part of the Western Fleet, based in Mumbai under the Western Naval Command.
