DRDO’s Long Range Glide Bomb GAURAV Successfully Completes Maiden Flight Test

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Long Range Glide Bomb (LRGB), named GAURAV, from the Su-30 MK-I platform of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The test, held off the coast of Odisha, showcased GAURAV’s capabilities as a 1,000 kg class glide bomb designed for long-range precision strikes.

Upon launch, GAURAV navigates toward its target using a highly accurate hybrid navigation system that integrates INS and GPS data. This indigenous development by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad demonstrated pinpoint accuracy during the flight test.

Telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems deployed by the Integrated Test Range captured complete flight data, while senior DRDO scientists and representatives from Adani Defence and Bharat Forge, the Development cum Production Partners, monitored the trial.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, IAF, and the industry for this achievement, calling it a significant milestone in advancing indigenous defense technologies to enhance Armed Forces capabilities. Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr. Samir V. Kamat also congratulated the entire DRDO team for the successful test.
