The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a significant collaboration in space science, technology, and exploration on September 4. The agreement, signed at ISRO Headquarters in Bengaluru, aims to enhance scientific understanding of the Sun-Earth connection and explore new frontiers in space research.
The event was presided over by Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO and Secretary of the Department of Space (DoS), Government of India. Representing ISRO in the signing was Shri Shantanu Bhatawdekar, Scientific Secretary, while Prof. A.P. Dimri, Director of IIG, signed on behalf of the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism.
The collaboration will promote joint programs to explore key aspects of space science, focusing on the interaction between solar activity and Earth’s magnetic environment. Both institutions will work closely to develop scientific research initiatives, fostering innovation in space exploration.
Also in attendance were several distinguished witnesses, including Dr. Tirtha Pratim Das, Director of ISRO’s Science Programme Office, Dr. Jagadheesha D, Deputy Director of the same office, Prof. S. Gurubaran of IIG, and Shri Ashutosh Shukla, Registrar at IIG.
This partnership marks a step forward in India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen space research and technology, aligning with the nation’s vision of becoming a global leader in space exploration.
