ST Engineering Secures MRO Contract with Akasa Air

ST Engineering has announced a significant milestone in its Commercial Aerospace business, securing a 15-year exclusive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) contract with Akasa Air, India’s fastest-growing airline. This agreement entails providing MRO solutions for the LEAP-1B engines that power Akasa Air’s Boeing 737 MAX fleet.

Under this partnership, ST Engineering will conduct the first Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV) service for Akasa Air’s LEAP-1B engines at its state-of-the-art aerospace facility in Singapore. The contract covers Akasa Air’s current fleet of 25 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, along with an additional 201 aircraft that the airline will receive over the next eight years. Recently equipped with LEAP-1B engine test capabilities and ramping up its MRO capacity, ST Engineering aims to deliver seamless services to support airlines like Akasa Air in driving long-term growth and operational efficiency.

Daniel Saldanha, Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering at Akasa Air, stated, “We are thrilled to partner with ST Engineering as our MRO solutions provider for the first PRSV service for all our engines. This partnership reinforces our focus on operational efficiency and is a testament to our commitment towards delivering the highest standards of safety and reliability in global aviation. With ST Engineering’s expertise and innovative technologies, we are confident that our fleet will continue to operate at peak performance, ensuring a seamless and reliable travel experience for our customers.”

ST Engineering was the first independent MRO provider in Asia to join CFM International’s LEAP open MRO ecosystem under a CFM Branded Service Agreement in 2023. The company has recently enhanced its capabilities for testing LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines at its Singapore facility and is currently expanding its offerings to include LEAP PRSV services. This partnership with Akasa Air marks a significant step forward in ST Engineering’s commitment to supporting the aviation sector with cutting-edge MRO solutions.
