DRDO Successfully Conducts Flight Tests of VSHORADS

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted three flight tests of the 4th Generation Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges. These trials, held on October 3 and 4, demonstrated critical parameters, including maximum range and altitude interception against high-speed targets.

The tests showcased the system’s impressive hit-to-kill capability across various engagement scenarios, including approaching, receding, and crossing target modes. With the development of the VSHORADS missile now complete, two production agencies have been engaged in the Development cum Production Partner (DcPP) mode. The successful use of these missiles during the trials paves the way for early user trials and production, aligning with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat.’

VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and DcPPs. The three branches of the Armed Forces have been involved from the outset, actively participating in the developmental trials.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his congratulations to the DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners involved in the successful trials. He noted that this new missile equipped with modern technologies will give further technological boost to the Armed Forces against aerial threats.

Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, also congratulated the team and industry partners for their contributions to the successful flight tests.
