The two-day DRDO Directors’ Conclave 2024 commenced at the Armament Research & Development Establishment in Pune. Inaugurated by Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, the event aims to address the evolving challenges in global defence technology.
In his opening address, Dr Kamat underscored the critical importance of technology leadership in today’s rapidly changing landscape. He highlighted the need for DRDO to “Reform, Perform, and Transform” as part of the government’s vision for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, delivered a plenary talk focusing on the harnessing of next-generation technologies for future conflicts. He discussed DRDO’s pivotal role in fostering a self-reliant defence ecosystem.
Aligned with the theme “Transforming DRDO for Redefined Defence R&D,” the conclave features various sessions aimed at informing participants about the reforms currently being implemented within DRDO to enhance its efficiency. Discussions are centred around developing a robust R&D ecosystem by fostering collaboration between industry and academia, with the goal of positioning India as a leader in defence technology.
The event includes brainstorming sessions and plenary talks designed to enhance capacity in defence R&D through active participation from both academia and industry. The conclave will conclude with the sharing of ideas and recommendations for a strategic path forward.
Top officials from DRDO, including Directors and Programme Directors from various labs, as well as Corporate Directors and Integrated Financial Advisers, are participating in the event, contributing to the collective goal of advancing India’s defence capabilities.
