L&T Set to Receive Follow-up Order for 100 K-9 Vajra Self-Propelled Howitzers

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is close to finalizing a follow-up contract with the Indian Army for an additional 100 K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers. This new order will enhance the Army’s artillery capabilities, reinforcing its long-range firepower.

The K-9 Vajra, a locally manufactured version of South Korea’s Hanwha Defense system, has been a key component of the Indian Army’s artillery since its induction in 2018. The repeat order will expand the Army’s fleet of these advanced howitzers, further strengthening its operational readiness.

The K9 VAJRA-T 155mm/ 52 is a tracked self-propelled howitzer (a short gun for firing shells on high trajectories at low velocities), which has its roots in the K9 Thunder, the mainstay of the South Korean Army. The self-propelled howitzer is known for its mobility, precision, and firepower, making it a vital asset in India’s artillery modernization efforts. This forthcoming order highlights the increasing reliance on domestically produced defence technology, in line with India’s strategic push toward greater self-sufficiency in military manufacturing.
