Kongsberg Appoints Ronny Opsjøn Langset as EVP Naval Surface Ships

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has announced the appointment of Ronny Opsjøn Langset as Executive Vice President of Naval Surface Ships. In his new role, Langset will oversee key initiatives, including the development of standardised vessels for the Norwegian Navy.

Langset joins KONGSBERG from his position as yard director at Vard Langsten in Tomrefjord in northwestern Norway. He will join the senior management team at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and report to President Eirik Lie.

Langset will also head up KONGSBERG’s office in Ålesund, which was launched last year to strengthen the company’s naval activities, in close cooperation with Kongsberg Maritime and Kongsberg Discovery and in the heart of the Norwegian maritime cluster

“We are very pleased to have a manager of Ronny’s caliber joining our team. Norway’s long-term defence investment plan includes a groundbreaking investment in the navy, featuring large-scale construction projects for up to 28 new standardised vessels. The industry is ready to take on these initiatives, which will generate significant employment opportunities along the entire Norwegian coast,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

KONGSBERG has joined forces with key players in the Norwegian maritime industry to develop innovative solutions for building new vessels for the Norwegian Navy. This collaborative initiative aims to standardise vessel designs, creating opportunities for Norwegian shipyards, systems, and product suppliers to work together. The approach strengthens maritime readiness along the coast while fostering a unified and efficient effort within the industry.
“I am truly excited to join KONGSBERG,” says Langset. “This is a company experiencing strong growth, driven by ambitious goals and solid core values. Over the past few years, I’ve been impressed by the company’s remarkable progress, the dedication of its employees, and its skilled leadership. These factors made my decision to take this step much easier. I now look forward to getting to know the entire organization better and embracing the many exciting challenges that lie ahead.”
In addition to Vard, Langset has also worked at companies such as Braathens and Pratt & Whitney.
