The Su-57, Russia’s highly advanced fifth-generation stealth fighter, made its much-anticipated debut at Aero India 2025, where it was officially offered to India. With its supersonic cruising capabilities and cutting-edge avionics, the Su-57 left spectators in awe, showcasing the future of air combat technology.
The Su-57 is a multirole fighter designed to engage air, ground, and naval targets. It boasts advanced stealth features, including extensive use of composite materials, supersonic cruising speeds, and a range of state-of-the-art electronic systems. These include a powerful onboard computer known as the “electronic second pilot,” an innovative radar system integrated throughout the airframe, and internally housed armament, all of which enhance its combat effectiveness.
The demonstration flights were led by Sergey Bogdan, a decorated test pilot and Hero of Russia. With a career spanning several decades, Bogdan has tested numerous aircraft, including the MiG-29, Su-30, and Su-35, and was one of the first pilots to fly the Su-57’s predecessor, the T-50. In recognition of his contributions, Bogdan was awarded the title “Hero of Russia” in 2017 for his expertise in testing and developing new aircraft systems. He also showcased the Su-57E at the Zhuhai Airshow 2024 in China.
The Su-57 offers India a glimpse into the future of aerial warfare, bringing advanced technology to strengthen its defence capabilities.
