The leading provider of grinding and abrasive solutions, has started construction of its first manufacturing facility in Pune, India, marking a significant expansion into the dynamic Indian and Asian markets. This milestone highlights the global company’s commitment to local production, technological innovation, and sustainable growth, while supporting the “Make in India” vision.
Schwaz (Tyrol/Austria) August 2025:
The Tyrolit Group, a global leader in grinding and abrasive solutions, has broken ground on its first manufacturing facility in Pune, India. Coordinated from Tyrolit’s Austrian headquarters in Schwaz, this milestone marks a strategic expansion into one of the world’s fastest growing manufacturing hubs while creating significant value across Austria and India.
Creating cross-border value
Tyrolit’s Pune facility embodies the group’s global strategy by combining advanced European manufacturing with fast, local customer service. Tyrolit will now also be able to retip and finish the high-tech grinding wheels locally in India—removing the need for costly, inefficient returns to Austria and enabling faster, more effective support for Indian customers and partners. This integrated approach optimises the supply chain by balancing state-of-the-art European production with responsive, localised support—generating a win-win scenario for both countries’ economies.
Technology and sustainability as key differentiators
Tyrolit sets itself apart in the Indian grinding and abrasives market through its leadership in technology and sustainability. The Pune plant will introduce advanced CBN and diamond abrasives, delivering both high performance and eco-efficiency. Unlike competitors heavily reliant on imports, Tyrolit is investing in in-country inventory and building a dedicated technical team to co-develop customised solutions with Indian manufacturers.
Diverse portfolio and targeted industry focus
Globally, Tyrolit serves automotive, tooling, aerospace, energy and medical sectors with precision grinding wheels—including conventional, CBN and diamond types—cutting tools and sawing solutions. In India, the company’s initial focus is on:
- Automotive: Gear, camshaft and crankshaft grinding
- Carbide tooling for die and mould manufacturing
- Aerospace blade finishing
- Hardened steel machining
Hot press grinding wheels will be marketed to both India and China, while retipping of CBN wheels will be exclusive to India’s market, reflecting a sophisticated, locally focused product strategy.
India as a technical hub
Beyond manufacturing, the Pune facility will operate as a technical and training centre. Building on over 15 years of sales experience from Tyrolit’s Bengaluru subsidiary, the local technical team—comprising skilled application engineers—will conduct on-site trials, process optimisation and provide training to enhance productivity and quality for customers.
“India is a crucial growth market for us. Establishing local manufacturing and a strong technical team enables co-development of tailored grinding solutions, reinforcing our long-term commitment to Indian industry,” said Nilesh Nazre, Managing Director, Tyrolit Grinding Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
Securing global stability and driving growth
This facility diversifies Tyrolit’s manufacturing footprint and enhances long-term business stability while aligning with India’s “Make in India” initiative. The group aims to achieve a double-digit market share in Asia within five years through localised innovation, production and close customer engagement.
