CAMCOPTER S-100 Achieves EASA Design Verification Report for Rotary Wing UAS

In a landmark achievement for unmanned aerial systems, the CAMCOPTER S-100 has become the first-ever rotary-wing unmanned air system (RWUAS) to receive a Design Verification Report (DVR) from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This historic certification sets a new benchmark for the safety and operational standards of rotary-wing drones in Europe.

The DVR, granted following an exhaustive evaluation process, includes over 300 hours of EASA-observed flight testing. These tests meticulously assessed the S-100’s airworthiness, safety protocols, and operational integrity. The evaluation also confirmed the system’s adherence to rigorous standards for laser safety, cyber security, and resistance to High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF).

This pivotal certification not only enhances the S-100’s operational capabilities but also paves the way for the French Navy to issue a “Military Operational Type Authorisation” for the system. Additionally, the DVR streamlines the approval process for S-100 flight operations across all EASA member states, significantly broadening its deployment potential. “Receiving the DVR is a significant milestone for Schiebel and a major step towards fully certifying the CAMCOPTER® S-100 UAS,” said Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group.

The DVR process, introduced by EASA at the end of 2021, is part of the agency’s broader effort to ensure the safe integration of unmanned systems into European airspace. This initiative reflects EASA’s commitment to advancing drone technology while maintaining the highest safety and operational standards. The CAMCOPTER S-100, with its newly acquired DVR, is poised to lead the way in the evolving landscape of unmanned aerial systems, setting a precedent for future certifications and innovations in the sector.
