RTAF Enhances Capability with New IRIS-T Missile Contract

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has signed a new contract with Diehl Defence aimed at enhancing the integration and operational capabilities of IRIS-T missiles across its fleet. This agreement follows a successful and longstanding collaboration between the two entities focused on deploying IRIS-T missiles on RTAF aircraft.

Currently, the RTAF operates Gripen, F-16, and F-5 aircraft, all of which are already equipped with Diehl Defence’s IRIS-T missiles. The new contract, signed in Germany earlier this month, encompasses integration support, technical logistics, and live firing support, further bolstering the RTAF’s capabilities.

This agreement marks another significant step for the RTAF, demonstrating its proficiency in integrating and certifying new weapon systems within its existing fleet. The successful integration of the IRIS-T missile into the F-5 TH aircraft has set a strong precedent for future enhancements.

For Diehl Defence, this contract is a milestone in its ongoing partnership with the RTAF and aims to expand the deployment of IRIS-T missiles to additional platforms. The IRIS-T is a 5th-generation short-range air-to-air missile that has been integrated into various aircraft, including the Eurofighter Typhoon, Gripen, F-16, EF-18, F-5, and Tornado. Additionally, Diehl Defence is currently working on integrating the IRIS-T missile into the Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) KF-21 fighter aircraft.

This latest collaboration underscores both the RTAF’s commitment to advancing its air defence capabilities and Diehl Defence’s role as a key partner in modern military technology.
