India and Singapore Air Forces Begin Joint Military Training Exercise

On October 21, the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) kicked off the 12th edition of their Joint Military Training (JMT) exercise at Air Force Station Kalaikunda. This collaborative effort underscores the deepening defence ties between the two nations.

The bilateral phase of the exercise is scheduled from November 13 to 21, 2024 and aims to foster intense cooperation between the two air forces. Participants will engage in advanced air combat simulations, joint mission planning, and debriefing sessions. The primary goals are to enhance interoperability, sharpen combat readiness, and promote the exchange of knowledge.

The RSAF is contributing its largest contingent to date, featuring aircrew and support personnel from F-16 and F-15 squadrons, as well as G-550 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft and C-130 transport planes. The IAF will showcase its capabilities with a diverse fleet, including Rafale, Mirage 2000 ITI, Su-30 MKI, Tejas, MiG-29, and Jaguar aircraft.

Since its inception, the JMT exercise has been conducted under a bilateral agreement between India and Singapore, reflecting the strong professional relationship between the two air forces. The current exercise follows the RSAF’s participation in Ex-Tarang Shakti, one of the largest multinational aerial exercises hosted by the IAF, further highlighting the growing cooperation.

In addition to air operations, personnel from both air forces will share best practices and participate in various sports and cultural activities over the next seven weeks. JMT-2024 exemplifies the robust defence relationship cultivated through years of collaboration and joint exercises, as well as the mutual respect shared between India and Singapore.
