Indian Navy Hosts Third Edition of MAHASAGAR

The Indian Navy conducted the third edition of the high-level virtual interaction MAHASAGAR on 5 November 2024. Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, interacted with Heads of Navies, Maritime Agencies, and senior leadership from Indian Ocean Region (IOR) littoral states, including Bangladesh, Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.

The theme of the session was “Training Cooperation to Mitigate Common Maritime Security Challenges in the IOR,” focusing on the importance of training collaboration to address shared maritime security challenges in the region.

MAHASAGAR, meaning “vast ocean” in Hindi, is the Indian Navy’s flagship outreach for high-level virtual interaction between Maritime Heads for Active Security And Growth for All in the Region. The initiative, launched in 2023, has become a key platform for high-level virtual interaction between maritime leaders.

During this edition, participants discussed the need for quality training and greater collaboration between IOR nations to build capacity and develop skilled personnel to tackle common maritime security challenges.
