GRSE Commemorates India @ 75

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd., (GRSE), a Mini Ratna Category 1 Defence PSU and a leading warship building company of India, operating under administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, communed celebrations of the Country’s 75 years of Independence (India@75) – Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav through a week-long celebrations. The highlight of the commemorations was the e-release of GRSE’s Annual In-house Journal VARTA 2021 by Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankhar in the presence of Rear Admiral V. K. Saxena, IN (Retd.) Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE, Cmde Sanjeev Nayyar, Director (Shipbuilding), Cmde P R Hari, Director (Personnel), and other Senior Officials of GRSE on 28 April 21.

The Governor in his address commended GRSE in contributing to the strategic needs of India’s maritime interests and security. He also mentioned that the track record for delivery of 788 platforms including 107 warships by the shipyard, is a rare honour. The delivery of warships in recent times inspite of challenges, is a tribute to Team GRSE and its leadership, he said. While applauding the achievement of 90% indigenous content on board GRSE’s warships, GRSE’s contribution to the PM Cares fund and to various other organizations in the State of West Bengal through CSR activities, was also appreciated by the Hon’ble Governor.

The week-long celebrations saw five focused Webinars on enhancing ‘Aatmanirbharta’ with the first one on “Enhancing Workplace Productivity through Quality Circle” that included GRSE’s employees, apprentices and subcontractors working in GRSE. A “Webinar on GRSE’s success story of indigenization, was conducted with reference to 90% indigenous content on board Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes and Landing Craft Utility Vessels. GRSE’s plans for indigenization onboard it’s ships and engineering products, was also discussed. “Webinar on Green Energy for Inland Water Transportation in India” which focused on the key points like availability of design, necessary equipment fit availability in India, possibility of indigenous production of equipment, required upgradation of Merchant Shipping act or other regulatory rules requirement and possibility of export to the neighbouring countries. A “Webinar on Skill Enhancement Program for GRSE Employees on Implementation and Sustenance of IMS” and “Webinar on Enhancing Supply Chain Management at GRSE”.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited, has made significant contributions towards achieving self-reliance in defence production, especially for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard in the last 62 years of its operation as a DPSU. The shipyard has played a vital role in maritime security of the Nation by delivering the largest number of warships to our maritime forces. GRSE has the distinction of delivering 107 warships till date to our valued customers. Recently, the Fast Patrol Vessel, SCG PS Zoroaster built by GRSE was Handed Over by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to the Seychelles Coast Guard on 08 Apr 21. This export initiative was in line with India’s vision of SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region) that puts ‘Neighbourhood first’.

GRSE has received 40th ranking in ‘Fortune India – The Next 500 2021’, a phenomenal jump from 123rd last year. The company has also become PCMM level II certified and is on a path of stupendous growth.
