Navantia and Kongsberg Naval Services (KNS) signed a framework agreement in Bergen establishing a long-term contractual structure for Navantia’s role as industrial and technical partner to KNS in the support, maintenance, modification, and modernisation activities of the Royal Norwegian Navy’s F-310 Fridtjof Nansen-class frigates.

The agreement strengthens cooperation between the two companies and provides sustained support for the F-310 fleet across its entire lifecycle.

The signing was also attended by the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA), highlighting the agreement's strategic importance in sustaining Norway’s naval capability.

Under the framework, Kongsberg Naval Services, part of the Kongsberg Group, will act as prime contractor, while Navantia will serve as designer, integrator, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the frigates.

In its OEM role, Navantia will provide design and engineering support, platform expertise, and carry out modernisation and technical upgrades to ensure operational availability and adaptation to future Royal Norwegian Navy requirements.

The agreement is the third contract between Navantia and Norway related to sustaining the Nansen-class frigates, complementing the existing FOTS (Follow-On Technical Support) contract and the I-Mods (Important Modifications) programme.

It reinforces ongoing cooperation and reflects continued confidence from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence in Navantia as a key partner for sustainment and modernisation of the F-310 frigates.

The agreement also strengthens industrial cooperation between Spain and Norway in naval defence and consolidates Navantia’s role in one of its key international programmes.
